Idris Elba as Quentin Whitfield
Elba went full circle in closing his 2007 movie year, going back to something more for the family--not only in terms of genre with Preston Whitmore's holiday-themed comedy-drama, but returning to the Rainforest Films production fold. He just as comfortably fit right in with the rest of his co-stars in the ensemble, forging a believable tough love chemistry with them as the Whitfield family's black sheep eldest son Quentin. His is the linchpin character emotionally and dramatically, giving him ample opportunity to show his known ability in creating shaded, complicated characters while exuding a still-disarming warmth; however, in keeping in both the film's nature as an ensemble piece and its theme of the power of the family unit, he shines while never once overwhelming the greater combined luster created by everyone involved in the touching production.
